Three keys to success in effectively conducting a project are:
  1. The ability to direct team members, so each knows what is expected from their portion of the project.
  2. The ability to efficiently delegate work (particularly the work that in the past the project manager has done themselves).
  3. The ability to oversee the project to know how the project is progressing and when and where interventions are needed.

Once a project is (at least preliminarily) defined, planned and staffed, the Project Manager must then ensure he/she is effectively conducting the project. This course defines the fundamental skill-sets necessary for the “Conduct” of a Project including processes and instruments for direction, delegation, coordination, oversight and tracking.
While conducting the project, it is crucial that the Project Manager understands that he/she is not there to do all the work, but rather to manage all the work, meaning that the ability to delegate is critical for success.
This can be especially challenging for many managers who were “promoted” because they were all-star programmers/analysts/designers/etc and have the ability to do the work very efficiently themselves.
