"For every problem, no matter how complex, no matter how difficult the situation, there is always a solution that is simple, straightforward, quick, -- and wrong."
Richard Branton
Since being coined by Bill Inmon as a particular design strategy, the term Data Warehouse has come to mean many different things to many different people. The term evolved from a design strategy and was picked up by marketing groups to help generate sales of disk-drives, boxes, client/server solutions, DBMS’s, tools, consulting services, etc.

Advanced Strategies has been involved in many Data Warehouse projects (both successful and unsuccessful).
To us, a Data Warehouse is simply defined as “One of many data architectures designed to support business information needs while simultaneously supporting operational processing needs.”
While a Data Warehouse architecture is appropriate for many situations, it is not appropriate for all.
